Ayurveda, "the science of a long and healthy life", drawing on a tradition handed down over more than 5,000 years, is the oldest health system we know. Ayurveda sees us as not separated from nature, but rather as a part of it. The better we know ourselves and our nature, the easier it is for us to live in harmony with it. Ayurveda shows us how we can maintain our health, vitality and joie de vivre into old age. The study of the three bioenergies (doshas) plays a central role. Each person is affected by a certain composition of doshas that shapes his or her constitution, appearance and personal inclinations. As long as these bioenergies are in balance, people are healthy. Ayurveda is the science of maintaining and re-establishing this balance on a physical and mental level.
